Gestamp is a global Tier 1 automotive supplier, manufacturing pressed and welded metal components for major vehicle manufacturers from their facility in Llanelli. When the plant required a comprehensive safety upgrade, Trust Scaffolding was contracted to install 400 linear metres of industrial edge protection across the facility's roof and elevated structural levels — one of our largest single edge protection contracts, and a project that demanded both scale and precision within a live manufacturing environment.

The plant remained fully operational throughout the works. Active production lines, logistics operations, and overhead crane movements meant that every stage of the installation — from component delivery to final handrail fixing — had to be planned around the facility's manufacturing schedule. Our team coordinated directly with Gestamp's plant safety team and facilities management to establish agreed working windows, defined access routes, and exclusion zones that kept our operatives clear of production activity without disrupting the client's output. T-Deck safety decking platforms were installed to provide continuous high-load-capacity working areas for internal facility upgrades. The T-Deck system — the same FASET-accredited platform we have installed across residential new builds and large commercial projects — provides collective fall protection at height without the footprint or cost of a full birdcage scaffold. In an industrial setting with structural steelwork, plant machinery, and space constraints, T-Deck is often the only practical solution for creating a safe, certified internal working platform.

The 400-metre linear scope required careful pre-fabrication planning and a structured installation programme to minimise time on the factory floor. Method statements and risk assessments were submitted to and approved by Gestamp's plant safety team before any work commenced. All edge protection was installed to current SG4:22 standards, providing secure fall prevention along roof perimeters, roof lights, and mezzanine edges throughout the facility.
